Friends of Desert Symposium

The Desert Symposium Inc. was incorporated as a nonprofit 501c3 institution in February 2018. The goals were to continue the inspirational leadership of Bob Reynolds by holding meetings of the Desert Symposium and associated field trips, as well as to support studies of arid regions.

The Board of Directors asked past attendees to donate to our Founders Circle to help set our new organization on a firm financial footing during its first two years only. Your gifts were significant and impacted our ability to hold meetings many times over the last several years. Thank you!

DSI also established the Robert E. Reynolds Desert Symposium Student Research Award, which annually provides a cash award to a deserving student applicant. This award supports research in the desert and has already advanced the research of several students. This is an ongoing award and your continuing donations will impact future research of arid regions.

We appreciate your vital support for these long-term investments. In order to continue to develop the General Fund for DSI, we are initiating a new donation mechanism, the Friends of Desert Symposium. As with the Founders Circle, the donations will go to the unforeseen operational needs that currently are largely centered around running the meeting and publishing its proceedings. Donors will be honored in the annual Proceedings Volume.

Donations are charitable and checks should be made out to: Desert Symposium Inc.

And mailed to:

Bruce Bridenbecker, DSI Treasurer
PO Box 2411, Running Springs CA 92382-2411

Sincerely, and with a warm "thank you",
the Board of Directors, DSI

Founders Circle

In autumn 2017, after more than 30 years of cobbling together the Desert Symposium, we were forced to radically restructure our operations as a result of changes within the Desert Studies Center. With a meeting and field trip to organize just eight months away, we scrambled to form a new corporation and find a board of directors. Most daunting of all were the seemingly endless logistics: talks, posters, food, housing, proceedings, advertising, website, printing, email lists, awards, field trip & leaders for it, permits, registration, you name it. And of course we had no money. So we asked for donations and many people generously funded the launch of the Desert Symposium, Inc. Our first meeting was in April 2018 and somehow it actually happened, but we could not have done it alone. With enduring thanks, we gratefully acknowledge donations from the following people.
